In this 90‑minute practical workshop, you’ll analyse the evidence of a key opposing witness (the defendant) to prepare a strategic and impactful cross‑examination.

This session is designed to develop your analytical, preparatory, and questioning skills — with the ultimate aim of constructing a logical and persuasive cross‑examination strategy.

 

We'll Cover How To:

  • Identify the aims and objectives of your cross-examination of the witness

  • Spot the strengths and weaknesses in the witness’s evidence

  • Develop strategies to expose inconsistencies and vulnerabilities

  • Distinguish what’s relevant from what isn’t

  • Address evidential issues clearly and confidently

  • Structure your cross-examination for maximum impact

  • Use the right question types to expose weaknesses and vulnerabilities

This will be an interactive session, with group discussion, shared strategies, and live practice.

  •  Video Resource: Examination-in-chief of the defendant (Anthony Brown), conducted by Barrister Jack Jennett

 

Preparation Required:

To get the most from the session, you’ll be asked to:

✔️ Watch a demonstration video of the defendant’s evidence-in-chief

✔️ Read the brief (R v Brown & Jones)

✔️ Identify key areas for cross-examination of the defendant
