This practical two-hour workshop is designed for lawyers of up to seven years’ qualification, as well as those returning to practice.
You will have the opportunity to:
- practise your advocacy in a supportive environment
- try out new techniques
- identify your strengths and the areas to improve
- learn from watching others and hearing detailed feedback
- ask questions in an open Q&A
The workshop uses criminal case materials, but the advocacy skills are transferable across practice areas. Exercises include:
- bail application
- hearsay application
- application to stay proceedings or exclude evidence
- plea in mitigation
You will receive the materials no later than one week before the session and should prepare one exercise in advance.
On the day, you may choose either to:
- perform an advocacy exercise and receive constructive feedback from Daniel Benjamin, or
- attend as an observer and learn from the performances, feedback and discussion
A certificate of attendance will be issued after the workshop.
